Shu Brocade

    Shu Brocade from Sichuan Province is an important cultural heritage and famous traditional craftwork in China. It has been long making the list of the four famous Chinese brocades together with Yun Brocade from Nanjing, Song Brocade from Suzhou and Zhuang Brocade from Guangxi. Shu Brocade boasts unique textile technique which ever won for her the gold award in the 1908 Panama World Expo, the international special award in the 1907 Southeast Asia Expo and the Oriental Beauty Award in the 1937 New York World Expo. These prestigious awards uplifted Shu Brocade to the top of the four famous Chinese brocades.
    The textile design of Shu Brocade varies in general with the evolvement of social and cultural trends. For example, in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, Shu Brocade was renowned for its graceful and elegant design. But in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, its design was dominated by flowers and birds copied from life as well as round flowers. Since the beginning of modern times, the public face of textile technique and design of Shu Brocade has become brocade paintings embroidered with color silk threads on satins by adopting traditional technique of Shu Brocade. This innovative satin painting of Shu Brocade has plenty of room for presenting a variety of themes from ancient and modern painting and calligraphy to ethnic groups in Chinas western regions, the Tibetan Buddhism conceptions and modern landscapes
